For this Nantucket property, we set out to prove that a coastal getaway doesn't have to live in blue and white. In the guest cottage playful wallpaper sets the tone in every room, from soft wave prints in the kids' bunk room to a cheerful pink pattern in the primary suite and graphic blue pufferfish in the powder room. A vibrant, unexpected palette carries into the kitchen, where glossy emerald-green cabinetry and brass hardware take center stage against a geometric tile backsplash and green foliage wallpaper, proof that a kitchen can be full of personality without sacrificing function.

In the main house, we renovated the ground level to create a proper family game room, anchored by a custom-built bench and oval table designed for long afternoons of chess and cards. Playful artwork, a pair of retro swimmer prints and a whimsical scrabble-board, sets a lighthearted tone, while a dramatic wall of hand-painted oars adds color and texture to the adjoining living space. The primary bedroom received its own refresh, layering deep blue tones with wave-print wallpaper and warm brass fixtures for a calm, collected retreat.

Together, the two spaces show that coastal design can be bold, characterful, and entirely its own, a true departure from the expected.
