For long-time clients, this property had been in the family for years, but it no longer fit their growing needs. This project was about rethinking a well-loved home without losing the coastal ease that made it theirs.

The brief called for modern, sophisticated furnishings that could stand up to real life: performance fabrics, hardy wood pieces, and a layout built for kids as much as for entertaining. Throughout the home, lively modern art collected from artists as far-flung as Germany and as close to home as Nantucket adds color, movement, and a sense of the clients' worldliness.

One of the most transformative changes happened underfoot. The original yellow pine floors were stained by Eastwood Flooring to a cool deep gray, a finish that took several rounds of custom sampling to get right, avoiding the purple undertones that so easily creep in when graying out yellow pine. The result grounds the whole home in a tone that's calm, current, and true to our clients' modern sensibility.

The living room fireplace, once aging and leaky, was fully rebuilt from the masonry out. We designed a custom surround pairing sleek high-gloss white with leathered Absolute Black granite, balancing durability with texture and depth.

Space efficiency was key throughout this smaller home. In the primary suite, a custom floating desk keeps the room feeling open and uncluttered by lifting heavy furniture off the floor. In the cottage, we custom-designed a lifting bed and bedroom furnishings to maximize storage without compromising on a clean, functional aesthetic.

The result is a home that feels effortlessly livable: polished enough for the adults, durable enough for the kids, and personal enough to still feel like it belongs to the family who's called it home for years.
